The Library of the Pontifical Oriental Institute was inaugurated at its present location on November 14, 1929.

It contains sections specializing in: Ecclesiastical History, Theology, Patrology (Fathers of the Church), Spirituality, Hagiography (Lives of the Saints), Liturgy, Canon Law, Oriental Christian Art.

Disciplines that involve the nationalities and geographical areas of the Christian East dealing with the Byzantine-Slavic zones, the Balkans, and both Near and Middle East are the following: Secular History, Languages (and Literature), Archaeology, Civil Law, Non-Christian Religions (Judaism and Islam).

There is also a special section dedicated to Ecumenism.
